The Super Falcons of Nigeria bowed gallantly to hosts of the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup, France, in Rennes on Monday.
Concise News reports that Thomas Dennerby‘s ladies were reduced to ten players when Ngozi Ebere got sent off after receiving a second yellow card in the 74th minute. And Wendie Renard dispatched the resultant kick to give the Europeans a 1-0 win.
Initially, VAR had ruled that goalkeeper, Chiamaka Nnadozie moved before the ball was kicked. Renard missed the first kick. However, she retook the kick and buried it in the upper right giving France what eventually proved the winner.
FT’ in Rennes: 0-1 – bowed narrowly to the hosts but they produced a glorious showing. They will wait for the outcome of games in the other groups to confirm their place in the last 16.

France make it three wins in as many group matches to win the group, while Nigeria will have to wait for other results to know if they can be among the four best third-placed teams.
With their 2-1 win against the Korea Republic, Norway finished in second place behind France to reach the Round of 16.
