Someone once told me that I’m too young to worship in an Orthodox church, but then that is where my faith lies.
However, before I continue my story let me quickly mention that experiences in churches these days have become not-too-palatable. This kept me wondering that just as times have changed, shouldn’t we all change?
I decided to worship in a Pentecostal church last Sunday, and it was drama upon drama from their ushering department.
Firstly, I was asked to sit where cameras won’t get to reach me because, of course, my dressing is odd as I’m not used to the church. Trust me, I didn’t answer them.
Just as they’re forming a committee as to who will come and forcefully eject me from where I was comfortably seated, a lady walked in, wearing a chiffon gown, and a leggings underpants.
And then there was chaos! Full blown embarrassment and abuse in the auditorium, while service is ongoing.
Dear usher, come here! Yes you, you that borrowed shoe, gele and powder to impress in church, please read your scriptures very well! John 3vs 17 read; For Jesus didn’t come to the world to condemn the world, but that through him the world might be saved.
Let me give you some possibilities about the lady you all are embarrasing;
What if what she’s wearing is her best dress?
What if where she comes from, she’s the best dressed?
What if she was in a turmoil and didn’t even care what she put on, she just wanted to meet Jesus!?
Where is it even written that you must dress in a particular way before coming to Jesus?
Isn’t the church supposed to be a sanctuary?
Come unto me all ye that labor, and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest;
So, how does what you wear define where you sit in church? Please, stop bringing your personal, stupid sentimental opinion to God’s presence, He doesn’t need it.
Just bring a lost sheep regardless of color, race, language and ethnic, that’s what the lord demanded, and as ushers, just lead them to sit down.
Or is it not the same bible we both read? Is it not same common sense that is required of us to apply the bible’s teachings?
I’ll stop here for now.
